What A Screwed Up World

(I heard Louie Armstrong's " Wonderful World" this evening and felt compelled to author my own version of it. It is sad that the state of he world is in such turmoil that I would be "inspired" to change the words of such a beautiful song. It is with appologies to Satchmo and to his memory that I post my version of his song.)
.
What A Screwed Up World
.
I see men of greed, big bosses too,
I see 'em steal from me and you;
And I think to myself, what a screwed up world.

I see streets of hate, crowds of whites,
The blacks oppressed ways and dark bloody fights;
And I think to myself, what a screwed up world.
The color of the blood flow
Isn't so pretty on the ground.
It's all about their races
And people going down.
I see friends shakin' fists
Sayin' "I'm gonna kill you."
I hear babies cry, and I pray they'll grow
And learn much more than you and I know
And I think to myself, what a screwed up world.
I see men of the cloth, politicians too
I see 'em collect from me and you;
And I think to myself, it's one screwed up world.
I see throngs of the rich, denying the poor
Their plight is not important any more;
And I think to myself, what a screwed up world.
The color of the blood flow
Isn't so pretty on our hands
And it's also on the faces
Of those in far away lands.
I dream of friends shaking hands
Sayin', "How do you do?"
Prayers sayin', "I love you."
I dream the cryin' babies find a mother's breast
And they'll grow knowing much more than you and me
And I'll think to myself, what a wonderful world.
But for now,
I think to myself, what a screwed up world.
.
(Out of respect to Mr. Armstrong, the original lyrics follow.)
.
Wonderful World
.
I see trees of green, red roses too
I see 'em bloom for me and you
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world.
I see skies of blue, clouds of white
The bright blessed days, and dark sacred nights
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world.
The colors of the rainbow
Are so pretty in the sky
It's also on the faces
Of people goin' by
I see friends shakin' hands
Sayin', "How do you do?"
Fairies sayin', "I love you,"
I hear babies cry, and I watch 'em grow
They'll learn much more that I'll ever know
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world.
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world.

Very imaginative on your part to put that together. It does speak volumes too.

Both versions are damned good.

It's not the world, it's the people in it with their narrow minds and hate that make it so screwed up. But you knew that.

"Fairies sayin'"I love you?"

I always thought he sang. "They're really sayin', "I love you."

A very sad version - and true - I am sorry to say. There ought to be something we can do to stop it all.
