Super (Hyper) Bowl XLIII

The Super Bowl is over and so is the hype. For the most part, only the sports personalities and fans of both the Arizona Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Steelers will still be talking about he game.

It was second most viewed Super Bowl ever, behind last year's match up between the N.E. Patriots and the NY Giants. A good portion of the total viewership was comprised not of true football fans, but of those interested in the ...
commercials.

This phenomenon of such anticipated and hyped commercials having nearly as much impact and interest as the game itself is truly capitalism at its best.

Who'd have thought that a football game would be responsible for entire families sitting together in the same room and watching the same thing for four hours?

For the past three Super Bowls I had jotted down on a legal pad the plays and commercials during the games and then posted a recap/review. I haven't posted it yet, but I did the same thing again this year.

I looked at the six pages written in longhand with all the notes in the margins, words crossed out, and words inserted, and stars next to the commercials ... and I really dreaded the editing I had to do. It was 10:30 PM and I was too tired to tackle the editing and then post.

I decided to skip everything to do with the game itself and to concentrate only on the commercials. Then I looked at that editing job facing me and decided I wasn't up to it today either.

Then I remembered one of the commercials for Hulu.com.

Hulu.com made it easier for me this year. They allowed you to embed the following:

The thumbnails are arranged by the most popular as voted by the fans. Rather than me to attempt to describe them, you can view them yourselves. I think you can still vote for your favorite - if you want to sit through all 60+ of them.

From the widget, click on the commercial you'd like to see and you will be transported to Hulu.com to view a full-screen showing of the ad.

(If you have a pop-up blocker turned on, you'll need to turn it off to view the videos. Oh yes, don't forget to re-enable your pop-up blocker when you are finished. Mine resets itself after views.)

Halftime Show: While I am not a fan of Bruce Springsteen, he and the E-Street Band put on a good show. I'd have to rank it right up there with the best of the halftime shows.

As usual, working Super Bowl Sunday, I missed the bulk of the game, the commercials, the whole 9 yahds. Of course, SportsCenter brought me up to speed on the game Monday; commercial-wise, I remain ignorant of.

No one could have convinced me, 34 years ago, that I'd care a whit about the commercials during a Super Bowl ;) Wha' happened?????

Skunk,

You are so right. Who'd a-thunk it? Some people actually get up during the game to hit the head so they won't miss the commercials.

It sounds like a script for Saturday Night Live or some comedy spoof program.

Lori,

You had to remind me that this Super Bowl ended like last year's.
