Jimi, Janis, Jim and John

With apologies to Dion.
*
Anybody here seen my old friend Jimi?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He thrilled a lotta people, but it seems the good they die young.
You know, I just looked around and he's gone.

Anybody here seen my old friend Janis?
Can you tell me where she's gone?
She thrilled a lotta people, but it seems the good they die young.
You know, I just looked around and she was gone.

Anybody here seen my old friend Jim?
Can you tell me where she's gone?
He thrilled a lotta people, but it seems the good they die young.
You know, I just looked around and he was gone.
--(Well, I'm the Crawlin' King Snake and I rule my den.) - Jim Morrison

Don't you love their songs and what they stood for?
Didn't they make us want to sing and dance, you and me?
Somewhere above they're playin' free
And wouldn't you want to see them just once more?

Anybody here seen my old friend John?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He thrilled a lotta people, but it seems the good they die young.
You know, I just looked around and he's gone.
-- (You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not he only one.) - John Lennon

I thought I saw him walkin' up over the hill
With Jimi, Janis and Jim.

Has anybody here seen our old friends?
Can you tell us where they've gone?
They thrilled us all, but why is it the good they die so young?
You know, we just looked around and they're gone.
(I was watching the film "Woodstock" recently and while Jimi Hendrix was playing the Star Spangled Banner I was reminded just how great a guitarist he was. When Janis Joplin belted out Piece Of My Heart I found myself again mesmerized by her soulful pipes. Then I recalled that I had harvested the picture at the top of this post for a rainy day. It isn't raining, and I'm sure most of you know that neither Jim Morrison nor John Lennon appeared at the Woodstock Pop Festival in 1969. If for no other reason than to pay my own personal tribute to these four giants, today was as good as any other to put the picture to use.)

If you believe in forever
Then Life is just a one-night stand
If there's a rock and roll heaven
You know they got a hell of a band

And my Jeff is playing bass there.
