Will We Become an Abomination?

Well, I've made it half way through my first week back to work. It hasn't been too bad so far. However, per the doctor's orders, I was only allowed to return to work on a light schedule this week.

Let's see, three and a half hours on Monday, four and a half on Tuesday, and one hour today seem to meet the criteria of a light schedule. Tomorrow I'm scheduled so far for just one hour, and no hours on Friday. Finally, there are four hours slated for Saturday. If my math is correct, I will have put in fourteen hours by the end of the week.

If no more hours are going to be added, I will try to arrange for those hours on Saturday to be moved back to Friday. I might as well have a free weekend, don't you think?

It was a another nice day weather wise around here, with the thermometer climbing to the high fifties and low sixties again. Like the day before, however, there was a chilly wind blowing about making it feel about ten to fifteen degrees cooler.

It was pleasant enough though that I decided to venture out to that frontier better known as a supermarket. We only needed a few items! You know the drill, you go the store for a little of this and a little of that. By the time you leave the store, not only did you buy a little of this and that, but you also walked out of there with one of those and some of them.

For me any trip to a retail establishment always includes my favorite pass time of people watching. I watch what they are wearing, I note if they are courteous or not, and I look at what they put into into their shopping carts.

Despite the cool winds on an otherwise nice day, there were several people, men mostly, who were dressed down considerably. Look at macho me! I'm wearing shorts and a tee-shirt! The more sensible of us were wearing long pants and long sleeved shirts with a jacket. I did get a little daring and leave my jacket unzipped!

One thing of significance that I did see was that a lot of men, women and children alike were sporting Boston Red Sox regalia. It's hard to believe, yes, but baseball season is scarcely a month away. I wonder which will occur first this year, the first baseball game of the regular season or the blooming of the yellow leaves of our forsythias?

Because of the popularity of the Red Sox, most of New England is referred to as Red Sox Nation. Not to be outdone, I've heard some New Yorkers now referring to thier fandom as Yankee Nation. If you go back in history the term "Nation" was used extensively. For example, the term was applied to the various Indian tribes. There were the Sioux and the Apache Nations, just to name a couple.

Now that I have touched upon the subject of the application of the word "nation" to areas or groups of people, I was going to try to create a list of my own. Before I could delve into that challenge, I got stuck on the very first one to come to mind. It wasn't that I thought I would be unable to think of anymore, not at all. It was that the first one I thought about was rather disturbing.

Think about this one. If Barack Obama becomes the Democratic candidate what would you call the Democratic Party? Hold that thought. What if he was to defeat McCain and become the President of the United States of America?

You still thinking? If either one or both of the scenarios in the last paragraph were to come to fruition would that not mean that I will have to refer to our country as:

OBAMANATION ?

No.1280

Lori,

You can learn a lot watching people.

...And sometimes watching people gives you ideas for a post.

Nankin,

And if Hillary is elected ... a Hilly Nation?

If McCain is elected: McCaination
If Obama is elected: what you said
If Hillary is elected: HilbillyNation

Now, if we want to elect someone that goes with nation, we need a politician aptly named, so we can express ourselves accordingly on the day after the election. Therefore, we need to rise up and vote for Indig for President.

Then we can all say what we think on Election Day plus 1:

Indignation

I just knew this would be pleasing to you in Hoss Nation.

Skunk,

I was beginning to wonder whether or not anyone caught the reference and inference of the last word in the title and the last word in the post.

Hale, many thanks for the kind comments (and for the interesting tidbit regarding the Cline demo).

Great blog you have here, by the way. Wonderful writing style. I'll be back soon!
