Gourmet Blogging

gourmet
n: A connoisseur of fine food and drink.
----------------------------------
[French, from Old French, alteration (influenced by gourmand, glutton), of groumet, servant, valet in charge of wines from Middle English grom, boy, valet.]
Usage Note: A gourmet is a person with discriminating taste in food and wine, as is a gourmand. Because gourmand can also mean “one who enjoys food in great quantities” or even “a gluttonous eater,” care should be taken to make clear its intended sense. An epicure is much the same as a gourmet, but the word may sometimes carry overtones of excessive refinement. This use of epicure is a misrepresentation of Epicurean philosophy, which, while it professed that pleasure was the highest good, was hardly given to excessive concern with food and drink.

The term gourmet was originally intended to describe the person who is partaking of the food. These days, however, it seems that some knucklehead somewhere has decided it proper to apply the word to the food itself. As a result, it is not at all uncommon to see "gourmet foods" literally spilling off grocery shelves everywhere.
....You'll see green gourmet pickles and cheddar cheese, ...Some gourmet baby backs and some green teas, ...You'll see some fats and gourmet lattes, ...And sure as you're born, ...You'll even find some gourmet popping corn!
...Now it's time for the burning question: How in the hell can jelly beans be gourmet? How can packaged prunes be considered gourmet? Can a hot dog really be a gourmet food? I tell you, it's a case of an oxymoron running amuck!

Far be it for me not to take advantage of the term being used out of context. Call it, if you will, blogetic justice. Please indulge me as I exercise this blogetic license. I'm about to unleash upon an suspecting Blogdom, the Gourmet Blog. You might be asking yourself, just what is a gourmet blog?
....A gourmet blog is that special post you recently read. It evoked such emotions as laughter, brought a tear to your eye, or angered you. In a word, it was a memorable enough post that it should be shared with others.

One such funny post about relationships is this recent one by Miss Vickie !

If you have ever wondered for what our flag stands , this post by my fellow Massachussets blogger Rebecca is one of the best explanations I have ever read.

I like those posts about the good ol' days, especially in the south. This one by Tan Lucy Pez had me taking a trip back down memory lane and I think y'all will like it too.

In this day and age, the state of our economy is constantly in the news. It is at the grass roots level, down here with us peons, where the economy makes its first impressions. The next post by Top Cat tells us how the economy can play with the lives of individuals.

There are plenty more gourmet blogs out there. Now if you'd like a 24-course meal of gourmet blogging, you will be well served by checking out the postings and ramblings when Monty participated in the June 29, 2006 Blogathon.
....These five were just some I remembered off the top of my head during some of my blogroll excursions. I'll add some more to the menu when I have more time to go back into the archives of some you other bloggers.

When at a buffet, never put more on your plate than you're prepared to eat. The same holds true for blogs, never open more than you can read at one time.
