A Measure of Treasures

A tour through our attic is a scavenger hunt
through time. These objects are a snap shot of
my wife's childhood. Seeing them is a trip

down Memory Lane for me. Although lost to
the ravages of time, these same things would
have been found in my house back in the 50s.

Her relics are in surprisingly good shape, almost in mint condition. Many of them are still in the original boxes. To a collector, there is a lot of value in yonder attic. A collector will not see them, however. The lot will belong to our daughter.

For laughs, I thought I'd do an Internet scavenger hunt to see how many pictures of her treasures I could find.

From the top left, Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls, Uncle Wiggly board game, Sock Monkey, Lamb Chop, Gumby and Pokey, View Master, Pick-Up Sticks, Potholder Loom, aluminum tumblers, Electric Football, and Little golden Books.

There are other treasures up there that aren't mentioned, because I got tired of surfing the web to find decent pictures depicting the objects.

These are just a sampling I thought I'd share with you. How many do you remember? How many did you have?

I remember all of these! But it wasn't, ahem, the fifties, lets say 60s. I had most of them at one time or another, but none survived the housefire when I was a teen. At one time, I had some of my husband's childhood toys, but my kids have torn them all to pieces!

I had all of those at one time or another.

I remember them all. One or more of them passed through my sphere of influence, too.

Your daughter is one lucky person to be the recipient of the things her mother adored.

Hi Mike ~~ What an interesting attic you must have. Thank you so much for commenting on Third Try. This one seems to be working, so fingers crossed. Has been a problem for Peter
so guess he is sick of my diasppeaing
blogs, I know I am. Take care, Merle.

Such treasures you have and hold on to them. What memories came flooding back good and bad but it is good for me to deal with them.

It is great they have been kept for the children and to share them with special memoreis od childhood stories that would make it even more special. Your children are very lucky to have special parents.

Hey There!

I hope all is well these days!

Your wife and I would get along swimmingly, I suspect! (In terms of collecting and preserving the items of our respective pasts).

Take care out there!

Your Pal,

Zambo.

P.S.
Do you prefer to be called "Hale" or "Mike"?...I'm not sure...I'd like to say "Hi Hale!" or "Hey Mike!"

those pickup sticks were fun, in a boring kind of way. I'm amazed that you can keep that stuff all of these years, and in good condition. Impressive. I have NOTHING from my childhood, except memories.

SOCK MONKEY!!! I love the sock monkey! I lost mine years ago; I'm coming over to hug yours.

Hmmm...sounds very perverse. Don't tell anyone I'm coming over to hug your sock monkey. I don't want the neighbors to talk.

I didn't think anyone else did the loop/loom thing..

I know my sis and I had ViewMasters and a Gumby figurine. She had Raggedy Ann, but I never had one for some reason.

I remember all of them, though.

However, I also remember that we were the only kids in school without an Easy-Bake Oven, but we had this weird game called "Jaws" (yeah, based on the movie) and basically it was a shark with some kind of spring-loaded mouth so it was supposed to snap at your "hook" at some point (meaning you lost). However, ours never worked right so we used it as a Barbie doll bed.

We were WEIRD kids.
